The R&A Scholarship Programme

The R&A Foundation offer bursaries to individuals in full-time education, in addition to the University of Exeter sport scholarship scheme.

Their mission statement is: ‘To identify and assist the development of student golfers of international standard during their course of study.’

The scheme is open to men and women of any nationality who have a minimum handicap of +1 for men and 2 for women.

In addition, student golfers who receive an R&A Foundation bursary have the opportunity to participate in the R&A Foundation tournament at the Old Course at St. Andrews in April each year.

Emily Toy

Women's Amateur Champion

BSc Exercise and Sports Sciences (+3)

"This year I have had a lot of opportunities to improve my golf when I was selected for the England Women's 2019 Squad. The university's scholarship scheme has allowed me to take these opportunities as well as continue my studies, for example spending 4 weeks in Australia competing in tournaments and national events. I've been able to do this and complete my degree at the same time, with help from the mentoring scheme, where we created periodised plans and scheduling for both practice and academic study. Furthermore, the strength and conditioning side of the programme has enabled me to feel comfortable on course knowing I have physically prepared in the best possible way. This year I was lucky enough to win the NSW Amateur Strokeplay and also the Women's Amateur which has gained me exemption into the British Open, US Open, Evian and Augusta Amateur. Without the help of the university and scholarship scheme none of this would have been possible"
